Roosevelt D. Collins, a distinguished dental surgeon, died in Chicago on Dec. 17, 2020, at the age of 92.
Collins was a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, National Dental Society, Lincoln Dental Society (former President), and was the first African American of Delta Dental of Illinois Insurance Company for more than thirty years, serving two years as President.
He was born in Vero Beach, Florida, relocating to Miami, Florida, in the Coconut Grove area. He served as a Corporal and Assistant Chaplin in the United States Army, for two years in Osaka, Japan and Manila, Philippines in the occupational forces.
Collins received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.
He was an Elder and Trustee of Six Grace Presbyterian Church being a member for more than sixty years, a member of the Royal Coterie of Snakes (former President), Lifetime member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and a member of Beta Boulé, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, Jean; his three children, Dr. Yvette Collins, Jan Collins Patillo (Avery) and Dr. Reuben Collins (Kristen); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
