Police have charged a person of interest after a Monday drive-by shooting left a victim at the University of Chicago Medical Center with a chest wound, though not with assault or attempted homicide.

Khalil Reynolds, 27, of the 7800 block of South Cregier Avenue, has been charged with breaking municipal code for possessing a laser-sight attachment.

On March 23 at 5:15 p.m., the victim, a 31-year-old man known to police, was on the sidewalk at 1137 E. 54th St. when a dark-colored van approached. The shooter produced a firearm and fired shots at the victim, whom Chicago Fire Department emergency medical services transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Chicago Police Department officers later detained a vehicle and the person of interest outside of the University of Chicago Police Department patrol area, 37th to 64th streets between Lake Shore Drive and Cottage Grove Avenue.
