Dreadhead Cowboy defends his Dan Ryan gallop

“I am an animal lover, period,” said Adam Hollingsworth, the Dreadhead Cowboy, as he held his son Akai during a press conference in Woodlawn on Thursday afternoon. Hollingsworth was released on bail yesterday evening after being arrested while riding a horse on the Dan Ryan Expressway Monday.

“I can even tell y’all that people that don’t know anything about horses from looking from the outside in … would think that what I did was cruelty to animals. But if you go to the racetrack, one hundred times worse, to the circus worse. It’s way worse than what I did to my horse,” he said.

In addition to speaking about the incident that occurred last Monday when Hollingsworth’s horse was injured while he was riding it down the Dan Ryan, he spoke about the importance of horses to himself and how they had helped him turn around and become a better person. Hollingsworth also said that he would like to purchase the land on the northwest corner of South Woodlawn Avenue and East 63rd Street, where the press conference was taking place, for a facility to bring horses and riding to Woodlawn and other neighborhoods.
