The 73rd edition of the 57th Street Art Fair has been canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak, the fair's planning committee announced Tuesday.
"The 57th Street Art Fair Committee has been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic with great concern and we have come to the conclusion that the medically prudent decision is to cancel our 73rd annual 2020 event," the committee’s statement reads. "This is not an easy decision to make, and we are saddened by the need to do so.
“Since our artists come from around the country to exhibit their work, we feel a responsibility in regard to the health and welfare of artists, volunteers, crew, food vendors, attendees and neighbors who help make our fair a success each year, and also to the larger community of our city, state, nation, and world.”
The committee also said that artists accepted to the fair will be able to show their work online, where it will be available for purchase. Updates about the virtual exhibit will be available at 57thstreetartfair.org in the coming weeks.
